A structured approach to meaningful emotional change.
BrainWorking Recursive Therapy® (BWRT®) is a structured, practical, and collaborative therapeutic approach that focuses on helping people change unwanted emotional responses.
BWRT® is informed by the current understanding of how the brain processes emotional responses and is delivered by certified practitioners who have completed recognized BWRT® training.
What makes BWRT® different?
BWRT® works with the emotional response you would like to change rather than requiring extensive analysis of the past. The approach is structured and goal-focused, while still allowing treatment to be tailored to your individual needs.
Throughout the process, you remain fully awake, aware, and in control.
Therapy for unwanted emotional responses and patterns.
People seek therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes it is a specific event. Sometimes it is a pattern that has been present for years.
BWRT® may be appropriate when emotional responses feel difficult to shift, even when you understand them logically.
BWRT® may be considered for concerns such as:
- Anxiety and panic
- Phobias
- Trauma responses
- Obsessive-compulsive presentations
- Health anxiety
- Performance anxiety
- Grief and loss
- Emotional responses that feel difficult to change
What does a BWRT® session involve?
Every person is different, but a typical BWRT® session may include:
- Understanding what you would like to change.
- Identifying the response you would prefer instead.
- Exploring how life may look when the difficulty is no longer affecting you.
- Working through the BWRT® process to help the brain establish the preferred response and future possibilities.
- Reviewing the experience together and identifying any appropriate next steps.
Sessions are collaborative and proceed at a pace that is appropriate for you.
How BWRT® fits into therapy.
BWRT® can be used as a standalone therapeutic approach or as part of a broader psychological treatment plan.
Whether BWRT® is appropriate depends on your individual needs, goals, and clinical presentation. Your psychologist will discuss whether BWRT® is likely to be a suitable approach for your circumstances.
Questions about BWRT® Therapy.
Do I have to describe distressing experiences in detail?
BWRT® does not require you to discuss experiences in unnecessary detail. Your psychologist only needs enough information to understand the emotional response you would like to change and the response you would prefer instead.
Will I be hypnotised?
No. Throughout BWRT® you remain fully awake, aware and in control.
Can BWRT® be used on its own?
Yes. BWRT® can be delivered as a standalone therapeutic approach or incorporated into a broader treatment plan where clinically appropriate.
Is BWRT® suitable for everyone?
No single therapeutic approach is appropriate for everyone. During your consultation, your psychologist will discuss whether BWRT® is likely to be suitable for your circumstances.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals, the nature of the difficulties you are experiencing, and your individual circumstances.
